Equine Bodywork: The Basics and Benefits

The type of bodywork that is practiced at New West Equine Services involves the systematic and rhythmic manipulation of the tissue - most similar to traditional massage therapy. Our modality also includes the addition of myfascial, active release, and stretching techniques to provide a holistic, rounded session for your horse.

Bodywork can be beneficial for horses of any level, age, or discipline. Just like us humans, the horse's anatomy is affected by  work - no matter what that looks like for that horse. Issues stemming from imbalance, injury, asymmetry, trauma, and general weakness can have a measurable affect on anyone from the highest level jumpers to companion horses.

Meet Adrien

I am Adrien Stillwell, born and raised in Calgary AB, Canada. I am an EEBW II equine Bodyworker with a background in human anatomy and physiology - holding a degree in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary. With a passion for helping both horses and humans, I began New West Equine Bodywork with the goal to improve the wellbeing and performance of horses of all levels. My bodywork blends my lifelong passion for horses with my knowledge of your horses inner workings to provide relief to your horse.

Why Choose New West Equine Services?

We believe deeply in teamwork, and the integration of various practitioners. As a bodyworker, we are on the same team as your vets, farriers, physiotherapists, chiropractors, and nutritionists.

Bodywork should nearly be a component of your horse's wellness program. Every modality had its blind spots, and working together will allow you to have a full understanding of your horse.

New West Equine Services is dedicated to the continued improvement of our services through continued education. By integrating the latest research and modalities in combination with qualitative principals of trust building, patience, and deep listening, we endeavour to provide your horse with the best possible care.

Our goal is to blend the art and the science of bodywork - not separate them. Each session will provide you with a detailed insight into the inner workings of your horse through initial observation and gait analysis, session reporting, as well as owner homework to ensure that you are able to assist and continue the work on your horse between sessions.

In the end, your horse is the one that matters the most, and they deserve a practitioner who will care for them as such!
